Arranged Marriages

So I totally know what an arranged marriage would be like.

Hey Hermana Rupe, you get to be companions with your best friend in the mission. Aren´t you so excited??

YES

but we were just lying.. cause Hermana Cuevas doesn´t have all of her documents so she can´t cross the border.

She´s freaking half-mexican. What do you mean she can´t cross the border?

That was totally racially horrible.. I´m sorry.

But I´m super upset and way anxious and I´m kind of dying. I reallllllllly miss Hermana Primo. Like separation anxiety. I just want her back and if I can´t have her back, where the HECK is Hermana Cuevas?? You should see my journal. Every day this week... Alex, get here already. Where are you? Someone help me? I need my friend Alejandra Cuevas. HERMANA CUEVAS.

So imagine you have a boyfriend or girlfriend or something and you´re about ready to get married and then your parents say, nope I found a better person for you. Marry him. You have to.

Yeah sorry mom and dad. Arranged marriages aren´t gonna happen. I will marry my best friend. And my husband won´t be from Colombia.

Hermana Ibañez is super great. She is super full of energy and she has a huge testimony. But she also has a short patience span and a snappy attitude. And she cries a lot too so I can´t really tell her how it is. And yep, you guessed it, she´s walking all over me.

She´s got a lot of nerve to come to Coronel Bogado and try and take over. I honestly feel like she just got here and is like nope. We´re doing this and this and this. And so I started fighting back... and I´m like nope.. .This little town doesn´t work that way.

But it´s all been super calm and there hasn´t been any fighting. Which is a blessing. And it´s her first transfer so she´s struggling leaving her first area and she´s been the senor companion for 5 months so she is used to being in charge and yeah.. power struggle. But we had a good talk this morning and she told me she misses her area and I was able to talk a little and help her to feel better... and I also explained to her that she´s got to be patient with me and with the area.. We´ll see how it goes.

BUT please just pray that Hermana Cuevas can come over here already.

Let´s talk about what I`ve learned this week.

I´ve been studying all over the place. The New Testament. The Book of Mormon. D&C tambien. And I am loving what I am learning. My testimony is being strengthened so much. I LOVE IT.

I love reading about Christ in Matthew. He is so incredible. I love the stories of the people He heals and of His loving words. BUT I especially love how siempre. ALWAYS it talks about faith. And how so many people were healed by their FAITH.

I also learned this week that SALVATION takes Sacrifice. Even on our part. We don´t have to sacrifice everything like Christ did. But He expects a little sacrifice from us.

I LOVE the parable of the Laborers in the Vineyard. in Matt 20.. And then it talks more about laboring in a vineyard in D&C 11.

And it can all be applied to the obra misional! :)

Christ teaches us what we need to do and how we need to be as missionaries in D&C 12:8

And no one can assist in this work except he shall be humbleand full of love, having faith, hope, and charity, being temperate in all things, whatsoever shall be entrusted to his care.D&C 14:11

I´m working on it. You should too... and we should all work on these qualities so that we can assist in the work of the Lord.. because....

And behold, thou art (insert your name here), and thou art called to assist; which thing if ye do, and are faithful, ye shall be blessed both spiritually and temporally, and great shall be your reward. Amen.

Missionary work brings blessings!! I testify of it. And missionary work is the most important thing we can do.

To PREACH the gospel and SAVE SOULS is the thing of most worth.

And now, behold, I say unto you, that the thing which will be of the most worth unto you will be to declare repentance unto this people, that you may bring souls unto me, that you may rest with them in the kingdom of my Father. Amen. D&C 15:6

Even sometimes when we feel alone. I was thinking lots about Moroni this week and how alone He was. But nevertheless, he just kept on doing what the Lord asked Him to do and He was blessed.

The Lord always blesses us.

And sends us gifts!! Sometimes we don´t like something about ourselves.

I´m super lazy
I´m fat
I can´t study well
I´m scared of strangers
I´m not creative.

whatever it may be... But may we look more for the good in ourselves and in others. And SHARE the gospel with them because

REMEMBER the worth of (all) souls is GREAT in the sight of God. D&C18:10

A waterbearer in India had two large pots, one hung on each end of a pole, which she carried across her neck.

One of the pots had a crack in it. While the other pot was perfect, and always delivered a full portion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to the mistress's house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water to her master's house.

The perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect to the end for which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do.

After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream: "I am ashamed of myself, and I want to apologize to you."

Why?" asked the bearer. "What are you ashamed of?"

"I have been able, for these past two years, to deliver only half my load because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your mistress's house. Because of my flaws, you have to do all of this work, and you don't get full value from your efforts," the pot said.

The water bearer felt sorry for the old cracked pot, and in her compassion she said, "As we return to the mistress's house, I want you to notice the beautiful flowers along the path."

Indeed, as they went up the hill, the old cracked pot took notice of the sun warming the beautiful wild flowers on the side of the path, and this cheered it some.

But at the end of the trail, it still felt bad because it had leaked out half its load, and so again it apologized to the bearer for its failure.

The bearer said to the pot, "Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side?

“That's because I have always known about your flaw, and I took advantage of it. I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back from the stream, you've watered them.

“For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate my mistress's table. Without you being just the way you are, she would not have this beauty to grace her house."

Each of us has our own unique flaws. We're all cracked pots.

But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. We've just got to take each person for what they are, and look for the good in them.

There's a lot of good out there.

Love you all. Cracks and all.
